CITB Tunnelling Safety Training Scheme (TSTS)

The CITB Tunnelling Safety Training Scheme is for you if you are involved in the tunnel construction industry as a member of the workforce, to help you understand a variety of different health and safety aspects of the industry, the associated working environment and some of the potential hazards you may face working on a tunnelling site.

What is the CITB Tunnelling Safety Training Scheme?

The development of this course was an industry led solution supported by CITB, from concept through to delivery, contractors, clients and providers have been consulted, often with direct input into development.

Course structure

This one day course covers the following topic areas:

  • Tunnelling related confined spaces
  • Shaft and surface operations
  • Tunnel construction
  • Tunnelling plant and equipment
  • Control of underground plant
  • Emergency arrangements
  • Occupational health, first aid, and PPE

Duration: 1 Day

Entry requirements

Delegates must be competent in English at operative level. The course content is suited to all ability levels.

Assessment and examination

This is a highly interactive course delivered by means of case studies, classroom discussion and group work. You will be continuously assessed and required to successfully complete a multiple-choice test.

Qualifications & certification

Upon successfully completing the course you will be awarded a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate.

This qualification must be renewed every five years by attending another TSTS course.
